2013 Trophee Eric Bompard Ladies Preview

Ashley Wagner started off her season with a silver medal finish at Skate America.  She got the triple + triple out in both programs and was only two points off of her personal best.  Her short program has a lot of spunk and personality but her free skate still hasn’t found it’s groove yet.  Although it’s very well put together the Bedroom Juliet feel still isn’t coming through 100%.  She needs a gold medal to guarantee a spot in the Final while a silver or bronze would keep her in the running.

Anna Pogorilaya was the surprise gold medal winner at Cup of China.  She placed 3rd in the short program but won the free skate with strong jumps and she set new personal bests in all segments of the competition.  She came in as a complete underdog to the competition and now is a front runner and has to face the pressure of expectations.  She does have room to improve as she had one failed double axel attempt in her free skate.  She needs a medal of any color to qualify for the Final.

Adelina Sotnikova finished behind Pogorilaya at Cup of China.  She won the short program but dropped to 3rd place in the free skate.  Her major errors in the free skate included doubling her opening triple + triple combination and getting an edge call and then under rotating a double flip that only earned her .20 points after a negative grade of execution.  She needs a gold medal to qualify for the Final while a silver or bronze keeps her in contention.

Christina Gao is still in the running for the Final after her 4th place finish at Skate Canada and needs a gold medal to stay in contention.

My podium predictions:

Gold: Ashley Wagner

Silver: Adelina Sotnikova

Bronze: Anna Pogorilaya
